Chase Swain deposited a pitch over the fence in left field for a three-run blast in the 12th inning, breaking a tie and ultimately lifting Penn State Abington to a 9-5 win on Tuesday over No. 8 Salisbury in Maryland.
Andrew Lastowka and Louis Rossner drew back-to-back walks for the Nittany Lions to open the 12th before Swain came through with the deciding swing.
Ryan McCarty followed with a solo shot of his own for insurance. It was his eighth homer of the year, marking a single-season program record for the Nittany Lions.
The Sea Gulls carried a 5-4 lead into the eighth before Lastowka doubled to right field, pushing Jared Himmelreich across with the tying run after he reached earlier in the frame with a walk.
Swain finished the day with five RBIs while Rossner contributed three hits.
McCarty secured the win, tossing five scoreless innings in relief while surrendering only two hits. He struck out four.
The win improved the Nittany Lions to 8-4 on the year. The club opens United East play on Friday on the road with a series at Penn State Harrisburg.
