Ian McCole solid but Hawks fall
Ian McCole was strong for six innings, but the Saint Joseph's bullpen faltered on Friday as the Hawks dropped their series opener with Fairfield at Smithson Field, 7-2.

McCole surrendered two runs (one earned) on seven hits. He didn't walk a batter and picked up six strikeouts.

The Stags carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh before scoring three more runs via back-to-back doubles off reliever Sam Davies.

Jake Artz put the Hawks on the board in the bottom half of the seventh, lacing an RBI-triple to center to Andrew Cossetti across with a run. Liam Bendo followed later in the frame with a single to plate Artz. The Hawks collected just five hits on the day.

The loss bumped the club to 4-4 on the season.

The two clubs will resume their weekend set on Saturday with Luke Smith set to start for the Hawks. The senior right-hander has looked solid in his two starts this season, surrendering three runs over nine innings. He's walked just two while collecting eight strikeouts.
