McCole surrendered two runs (one earned) on seven hits. He didn't walk a batter and picked up six strikeouts.
The Stags carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh before scoring three more runs via back-to-back doubles off reliever Sam Davies.
Jake Artz put the Hawks on the board in the bottom half of the seventh, lacing an RBI-triple to center to Andrew Cossetti across with a run. Liam Bendo followed later in the frame with a single to plate Artz.
The Hawks collected just five hits on the day.
The loss bumped the club to 4-4 on the season.
The two clubs will resume their weekend set on Saturday with Luke Smith set to start for the Hawks. The senior right-hander has looked solid in his two starts this season, surrendering three runs over nine innings. He's walked just two while collecting eight strikeouts.
