The games don't count, but it was cool to see baseball played in Lakeland on Friday. The Phillies and Tigers battled to a 6-6 tie in the Grapefruit League opener for both clubs.

Justin Williams went 2-for-2 for the Phillies while Matt Kroon delivered a two-run homer in the seventh to tie the score at 6-6.

The Phillies used nine pitchers in the contest with Tyler Cyr having the roughest day, surrendering three runs on two hits and a walk while recording just two outs. Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm both finished 1-for-3 on the afternoon.

The Phillies will host the Blue Jays on Saturday in Clearwater.

Sources and reports confirmed on Friday that the Phillies are in serious discussions with free-agent outfielder Nick Castellanos. A potential signing would put the Phillies over the luxury tax, a position the club has never encountered. You can read more about the Castellanos situation here

Yoan Lopez was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make room on the 40-man roster for Odubel Herrera. News surfaced on Friday that Lopez was claimed on waivers by the Marlins. The Phillies had claimed him on waivers back in November.
