Kyle Gibson tossed two scoreless innings and collected three strikeouts for Philadelphia on Sunday, but the Phillies dropped their Grapefruit League contest with the Braves, 5-1.
The Phillies had just four hits on the afternoon, with Darick Hall collecting the lone extra-base hit with a double in the fifth.
Bryson Stott finished the day 1-for-3 while Mickey Moniak went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts.
The Phillies will head to Tampa on Monday to face the Yankees. Hans Crouse is scheduled to start for Philadelphia.
Schwarber's Here
Kyle Schwarber arrived in camp with the Phillies on Sunday. He's a familiar face to hitting coach Kevin Long, as MLB.com's Todd Zolecki points out.
“There’s not a better guy that the Phillies could have signed,” Long said on Sunday morning at BayCare Ballpark. “He’s a grinder. They’re going to see that right away. You know Philly -- hard hat and lunch pail. That’s Kyle Schwarber.”
The Phillies will formally introduce Schwarber at a press conference on Monday morning.
Zolecki's Sunday piece on the relationship between Long and Schwarber is a must-read.
Phillies Notebook
To make room for Schwarber on the 40-man roster, left-hander Kent Emanuel was placed on the 60-day IL with a left elbow impingement ... The Phillies announced the signing of RHP Dillon Maples, INF Ronald Torreyes, and C Austin Wynns to minor league contracts on Sunday. All three have invites to Spring Training.
