Jefferson faltered in their season-opening doubleheader on Friday, dropping both contests to Erskine College at Grier Field in Due West, South Carolina.

Pitching was an issue in Game 1 for the Rams as four pitchers combined to allow ten earned runs via ten walks and 12 hits in a 14-1 defeat. Patrick Hohlfeld took the loss, despite collecting eight strikeouts over five frames. He also surrendered four earned runs via six hits. The Rams scored their lone run of the contest in the eighth when Zack Austin poked a single to score Alex Gonzalez who reached earlier in the frame on a fielder's choice.

The Rams played much better in Game 2 and collected ten hits, but Samuel Bass ran into some issues on the mound allowing Erskine to overcome a two-run deficit enroute to a 7-4 win. Dylan Rees and Ryan Sawyer collected two hits each in the loss. Austin hit a three-run homer in the third and finished with two hits.

Bass whiffed eight over four innings but surrendered six runs (five earned) on six hits and four walks.

The Rams and Erskine will play another doubleheader on Saturday.
