Hueth and Hawks fall

UMBC jumped on Saint Joseph's starter Ian McCole in the opening frame, scoring four runs en route to a 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore.

McCole surrendered five runs (four earned) over six innings. He scattered seven hits, walked two, and collected a pair of strikeouts.

Trailing by two in the eighth, Brandon Hueth led off the inning with a double to left field before eventually advancing on a groundball in the infield. He then crossed the plate when Ryan Cesarini ripped a triple to right field. Luca Trigiani followed with a walk to reach base as the go-ahead run, but Brett Callahan flew out to centerfield to end the threat with two runners on base.

Andrew Cossetti homered in the losing effort, launching a solo shot in the third inning. Callahan finished the day with a pair of RBIs.

Matt McShane threw a pair of scoreless innings in relief for the Hawks, collecting three strikeouts.

The two clubs will play a doubleheader on Sunday to wrap up the three-game set.
