In Wednesday's midweek game, the University of Pennsylvania prevailed over Lehigh in a tense 12-11 showdown at Tommy Lasorda Field in Meiklejohn Stadium.
The lead changed hands six times, culminating in Davis Baker's game-winning home run, his first of the season, over the right-field fence.
Notably, every member of the starting lineup contributed at least one hit to the team's offensive effort. Standout performances included Nick Spaventa and Jarrett Pokrovsky, who both went 3-for-5 at the plate, while Davis Baker, Wyatt Henseler, and Carson Ozmer each contributed two hits to secure the victory for the Quakers (8-9).
The Quakers open a three-game series with Brown on Friday morning to begin Ivy play for the 2024 season. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. at Tommy Lasorda Field.
Elsewhere, Saint Joseph's faced off against Navy, resulting in a 17-7 loss for the Hawks. Navy took an early lead, securing a 3-0 advantage in the first inning and extending it to five runs by the third. Despite efforts from Saint Joseph's to close the gap with runs in the third and fifth innings, Navy's offense remained dominant, adding to their lead with runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Hawks managed to tally some runs late in the game, but Navy ultimately secured the win.
Brock Murtha earned the win for Navy, while David Owsik took the loss for Saint Joseph's.
Owen Petrich and Ryan Picollo were notable contributors for the Hawks, each delivering solid performances with multiple hits and RBIs. Additionally, Drew DeSanto and Luke Parise made their collegiate pitching debuts for Saint Joseph's.
