Arcadia faced a formidable challenge on Saturday as they clashed with Misericordia in the MAC Freedom Championship, enduring a double defeat with scores of 8-7 and 2-1.
The sweep dealt a tough blow to the Knights, leaving their postseason aspirations hanging in the balance as they await their fate through the NCAA Selection show for the Division III tournament.
Misericordia won Game 1 in walk-off fashion via a sacrifice-fly to center field. Tommy Ajjan homered in the loss for the Knights while Matt Donchez and Kevin Wheeler collected three hits each. Donchez also chipped in with three RBIs.
Game 2 saw Misericordia clinch victory in the eighth inning, capitalizing on a single and an error by left fielder Matthew Sot to take the lead.
The Knights concluded their season with an impressive 31-12 record and held the No. 17 spot in the national rankings as they entered the MAC Freedom tournament. While a NCAA berth is promising, it's not guaranteed.
