Stephen DiBattista pitched a masterful complete game shutout, allowing just five hits, to lead Immaculata to an 8-0 victory over Scranton in their elimination game at the NCAA Newport News Regional on Saturday morning.

With this win, the Mighty Macs advance to face the loser of the Christopher Newport vs. North Carolina Wesleyan game on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Captain's Park in Newport News, Va.

The Macs took an early lead, scoring a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Sal Serici and another in the second inning on an RBI single by Joey Wright.

In the fourth inning, Immaculata broke the game open with a three-run rally. Wright delivered the key hit, a two-run single, to give the Mighty Macs a comfortable lead.

Wright had an outstanding game, finishing with three hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Sal Serici also contributed significantly, driving in two runs with a sacrifice fly and a single.

DiBattista, who had secured two crucial outs in relief on Friday, was exceptional on the mound. He scattered five hits, walked one, and struck out 11 batters. His dominant performance marked his third nine-inning complete game of the season, following earlier efforts against Centenary in March and Gwynedd Mercy in April.

If the Mighty Macs win on Sunday morning, they will secure a spot in the Regional final.
