Phillies Prospects - Philadelphia Baseball Review
There’s a rhythm to baseball card collecting that mirrors the game itself — timing, projection, and belief.

And right now, in the Philadelphia market, that rhythm is centered around three names: Justin Crawford, Andrew Painter, and Aidan Miller.

For collectors, this isn’t just about cardboard. It’s about identifying the next wave before the rest of the market catches up.

“When it comes to being a collector of baseball cards, a player’s 1st Bowman card needs to be a key component for each player you're looking to collect,” said Matt Stratton, manager at Wheelhouse Cards, the official baseball card partner of the Philadelphia Baseball Review. “The 1st Bowman card represents a player's professional debut into the game… we in the hobby like to think of it as their unofficial rookie card.”

That philosophy is the foundation of prospecting — and it’s exactly why Crawford and Painter have become focal points heading into the 2026 season.

Painter, in many ways, represents the classic long-term hold.

Drafted 13th overall in 2021, the right-hander’s Bowman Draft debut marked his formal introduction to the hobby. But unlike many prospects, his supply hasn’t flooded the market. Autographs remain scarce, and that scarcity has created a steady floor.

For collectors looking to enter at a reasonable level, his 2021 Bowman Draft Chrome 1st Bowman PSA 10 has become a key target, typically landing in the $60–$100 range. It’s not flashy. It’s not rare. But it’s foundational — a card tied directly to a pitcher who is now expected to play a significant role in the Phillies’ rotation.

And that’s where the hobby begins to intersect with reality.

Because if Painter performs the way the Phillies believe he can, those entry-level cards won’t stay entry-level for long.

Crawford presents a different type of opportunity — one tied more directly to immediacy.

The former first-round pick is expected to open the season as the Phillies’ starting center fielder, and his performance this spring has already started to move the market. His 2023 Bowman Chrome 1st Bowman Auto PSA 10 currently sits in the $175–$250 range, offering what many collectors see as a middle ground: accessible, but with upside tied directly to major-league production.

“It’s key to acquire players’ 1st Bowman cards early before the hype surrounds their name,” Stratton said. “Timing is essential when collecting in today’s era.”

That timing window is already narrowing with Crawford.

A strong April, a highlight-reel play, or a stretch of consistent production — any of it could shift his market quickly. In prospecting terms, the buy window isn’t closed, but it’s no longer wide open.

Then there’s Miller, the highest-upside play of the group.

The Phillies’ top prospect entering 2026, Miller has already climbed to No. 23 on MLB’s prospect rankings. His talent is unquestioned, but like many high-end prospects, his market comes with volatility. A recent bout of back spasms has impacted both his spring workload and, temporarily, his prices.

For collectors, that presents a familiar question: risk or opportunity?

His 2024 Bowman Sapphire 1st Bowman Auto Green /99 PSA 10 sits in the $450–$500 range — a higher-end entry point tied to a premium product known for its visual appeal and limited supply.

“Bowman Baseball might not be everyone’s cup of tea because it is a prospect-heavy product,” Stratton said. “However, it offers collectors a chance to research who could be the next star in the majors.”

That’s the bet.

And it’s why Bowman Chrome, in particular, continues to drive the prospecting market.

“Bowman Chrome Baseball is my favorite product to release every year,” Stratton said. “With new sets of prospects to collect and hold to see how their career plays out.”

But the Bowman conversation doesn’t stop with Chrome — not in today’s market.

For collectors walking into a shop right now, there’s another lane to consider.

“Bowman’s Best has been one of the hottest products we’ve had on the shelves,” Stratton said. “It’s a different kind of chase.”

2025 Bowman's Best Baseball offers a more curated experience. The checklist is intentionally tighter, built around the game’s premier prospects and established major league stars — a reflection of its name as much as its design philosophy.

It doesn’t carry 1st Bowman cards, the lifeblood of long-term prospecting. But it fills a different role in the ecosystem.

The appeal is immediate.

Shorter checklist. Cleaner chase. Higher-end presentation.

Collectors aren’t digging through depth pieces or waiting for development curves. They’re targeting known names — players already shaping the present and near future of the game — packaged in bold designs, layered inserts, and premium autograph content.

It’s less about projection and more about consolidation.

And for some, that’s the point.

“There’s a balance,” Stratton said. “You want your 1sts, but you also want products that showcase the top of the game right now.”

That balance is about to shift again.

2026 Bowman Baseball is expected to release in the coming months — typically landing in May — bringing with it the next wave of 1st Bowman cards and resetting the prospecting cycle once again.

New names. New speculation. New entry points.

In Philadelphia, that story is already unfolding.

Painter is poised to impact the rotation. Crawford is stepping into an everyday role. Miller is climbing, with the kind of trajectory that could make him the next centerpiece.

For collectors, the equation is simple — even if the outcome isn’t.

Buy early. Trust the evaluation. And understand that the best cards, like the best players, rarely stay undervalued for long.

Because in this market, timing isn’t just important.

It’s everything.
