Swarthmore baseball - Philadelphia Baseball Review
Swarthmore capped an impressive weekend with another dramatic finish Sunday, defeating No. 16 Case Western Reserve, 7–6, in 11 innings to claim two of three games in the series. Aidan Sullivan delivered the decisive swing, ripping a walk-off double in the bottom of the 11th that scored Leor Kedar and sent the Garnet to their second late-inning victory over the nationally ranked Spartans in as many days.

Kedar paced the offense with a remarkable 5-for-5 performance, scoring three runs, driving in two and launching a home run. The sophomore was a constant presence throughout the series, finishing the three-game set 8-for-13. Sullivan added the game-winning hit, while Deven Peterson and Nathaniel Kittredge each drove in runs during Swarthmore’s early surge.

The Garnet struck quickly with three runs in the first inning. Kedar opened the scoring with a leadoff home run before Peterson doubled home a run and Kittredge plated another with a groundout. Swarthmore extended the lead to 4–0 in the third when Zac Kahn doubled and later scored on a Case Western fielding error.

Case Western gradually clawed back, trimming the deficit with a run in the fourth and a solo home run in the fifth before taking a 5–4 lead with a three-run sixth. Swarthmore responded immediately as Kedar’s RBI single tied the game at five.

The Spartans briefly reclaimed the lead in the eighth, but Swarthmore answered in the ninth when Kedar reached on a single and later scored on a Brad Johnston base hit to force extra innings.

From there, the Garnet bullpen took control. David Herrin earned the victory with three flawless innings, facing the minimum nine batters and keeping Case Western off the bases.

In the 11th, Kedar sparked the final rally with a one-out single before Sullivan lined a double into the gap, bringing Kedar home to complete the walk-off and secure a 7–3 start for Swarthmore.

In other action, Rosemont delivered a dramatic finish in the opener and followed it with a strong offensive showing in the nightcap to sweep a doubleheader from St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) on Sunday in Upper Merion, winning 7–6 and 10–4.

In the opener, Rosemont erased a two-run deficit with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure a walk-off victory. Gary Kroll’s RBI single tied the game before Caiden Spinelli followed with the decisive base hit that scored Brandon Peake for the winning run. Kroll led the Ravens at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, while Spinelli added two hits and two RBIs. Tahj Wilson delivered a key two-run single earlier in the game to pull Rosemont even in the fourth. After St. Joseph’s built a 6–4 lead in the fifth, Rosemont’s bullpen kept the game within reach, and Patrick McCalister closed the door with two scoreless innings to earn the win.

Rosemont carried that momentum into Game 2, breaking open a tight contest with seven runs across the fifth and sixth innings to complete the sweep. Kroll again paced the offense with two hits and three RBIs, while Spinelli drove in three runs and Isaac Bugman added a two-run double during the decisive fifth inning. Brandon Peake chipped in with two hits and two RBIs as Rosemont collected nine hits in the victory.

Anthony Galli earned the win in Game 2, allowing two runs over four innings, while Solomon Denmark worked the final inning to secure the save. The sweep improved Rosemont to 2–5 on the season and provided the Ravens with their most complete day of the young campaign, highlighted by timely hitting and late-inning execution.
