Julian Costa delivered another historic performance Saturday night.

The senior left-hander threw the second no-hitter of his career as No. 23 West Chester opened a four-game weekend series with a doubleheader sweep of Frostburg State, winning 5–0 and 6–0.

Costa (3–0), a Mantua, N.J. native and Clearview High graduate, struck out eight across seven innings in the opener and allowed just one baserunner — a leadoff walk in the sixth — while becoming the first pitcher in program history to throw two career no-hitters.

The outing marked Costa’s second no-hitter in as many seasons after he recorded the first of his career early last year in Cary, North Carolina.

West Chester (7–1) gave Costa an early lead in the second inning when Christian Michak lined an RBI triple to score the game’s first run.

That was all Costa needed.

The Golden Rams added another run in the fifth on a passed ball before breaking the game open in the seventh. With two outs, Tanner Donati singled home Austin Stalker before Michak delivered an RBI double. Michak later scored on a throwing error following a stolen base to push the lead to 5–0.

Frostburg State starter Zach Dodson (2–1) allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits while walking six and striking out four.

West Chester completed the sweep in the nightcap behind another dominant pitching performance.

Luke Raho (1–0) tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out seven.

The Golden Rams broke a scoreless game open in the fifth inning.

Michak reached on an error to start the frame and moved to third on a single by Chase Jones. After the bases were loaded, Carter Rust drove in the game’s first run with an RBI single. West Chester added three more runs in the inning on a walk by Caleb Strawhecker, another walk by Drew Simpson, and a hit-by-pitch that forced in a run.

A wild pitch later in the inning extended the lead to 5–0.

West Chester added its final run in the seventh when Jones delivered an RBI single that scored Stalker.

Raho handled the rest, striking out the final batter to secure the sweep.

With the victories, West Chester recorded two shutouts in the doubleheader while improving to 7–1 on the season.
