Arcadia jumped in front early Sunday afternoon but could not hold off a late surge, falling 3–2 on a walk-off single at No. 4 Salisbury in non-conference play.
The Knights (1–1) plated two runs in the top of the first without recording a hit. Kevin Wheeler and Max Oswald both crossed the plate after Chris Quick reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, giving Arcadia a 2–0 advantage before Salisbury had recorded an out.
That lead held until the third inning, when the Seagulls (5–1) capitalized on limited chances to even the score. C. Seeley delivered an RBI single, and a throwing error later in the frame allowed another run to score, tying the game at 2–2 despite just one hit in the inning.
Graduate right-hander LJ Wolff started on the mound for Arcadia and kept the nationally ranked Seagulls in check. Wolff worked four innings, allowing two runs — only one earned — on three hits while walking three and striking out four. Hunter Dicarlantonio followed with 4.1 strong innings in relief, surrendering one run on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Arcadia had its opportunities to regain control. The Knights loaded the bases in the fifth inning but were unable to push across the go-ahead run. For the game, Arcadia drew seven walks but managed just four hits.
Oswald led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance and scored one of the Knights’ two runs. Taro Pustilnik added a hit, while Ryan Radigan reached base three times via walk and Wheeler worked two free passes.
The decisive moment came in the bottom of the ninth. Salisbury recorded three consecutive one-out singles, and C. Hartman lined a base hit up the middle to bring home the winning run and complete the comeback.
Despite the loss, Arcadia showed it could compete with one of the nation’s top programs, holding a ranked opponent in check for eight innings before the late rally.
