It was another full Saturday across the Philadelphia-area college baseball landscape, with Eastern and Arcadia splitting conference doubleheaders while Immaculata closed its spring break trip with a decisive victory in Myrtle Beach.
Eastern splits MAC Commonwealth twin bill with York
On a windy afternoon at the Yard, Eastern split its MAC Commonwealth opening doubleheader with York, taking the opener 7–1 before the Spartans responded with a 6–5 win in the nightcap.
Eastern (11–4, 1–1 MAC Commonwealth) used a decisive five-run third inning to seize control of game one. Trent MacDougall and Matt McSorley powered the offense, while Graham Adams delivered another strong outing on the mound.
MacDougall finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs, while McSorley launched a two-run home run. Ryan Alfonso and Luke Meehan each added RBIs, and Robert Del Buono sparked the rally with a double.
Adams improved to 3–0, allowing just one run on five hits while escaping several jams. Reliever Peter Mellana closed the final two innings, surrendering just one hit.
After two scoreless innings, Eastern broke through in the third. Del Buono doubled to start the rally before Kozlusky walked and MacDougall drove in the game’s first run with a single. Alfonso followed with an RBI bunt single, Meehan added a run-scoring groundout, and McSorley capped the inning with a two-run homer.
MacDougall added insurance in the fifth with a solo home run, his second long ball in as many games.
York’s Lucas Prendergast spoiled the shutout bid with a home run, but the Eagles held on for the 7–1 victory.
Game two featured far more late drama.
Eastern battled back from 4–0 and 5–1 deficits, tying the game in the seventh when McSorley launched his second home run of the afternoon, a two-out blast that made it 5–5. The freshman outfielder now has home runs in three consecutive games and leads the Eagles with four this season.
The Eagles threatened again in the eighth, loading the bases, but could not push across the go-ahead run. York ultimately secured the split when Matthew Wade delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the ninth.
MacDougall, McSorley, Matthew Gonglik, and Del Buono each recorded two hits in the game two effort.
Eastern and York conclude their series Sunday at Jacquet Field.
