Swarthmore used a late offensive surge to pull away from New York University, scoring 10 unanswered runs after the fourth inning in a 10–1 victory Wednesday in its home opener.

The Garnet trailed 1–0 entering the fifth before erupting for six runs in the inning and four more in the sixth to take control. Swarthmore finished with 13 hits and nine walks while improving to 5–2 on the season.

Brad Johnston ignited the rally with a leadoff home run in the fifth — his fourth of the season. Nathaniel Kittredge followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Garnet the lead, while Jackson Clemens delivered a two-run double later in the inning. Wilson Henze and Leor Kedar added RBI hits to cap the six-run frame.

Swarthmore added four more runs in the sixth. Deven Peterson drove in a run with a double, Henze added an RBI groundout, and Kedar lined a two-run double to push the lead to 10–1.

Clemens reached base in all four plate appearances, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks. Kedar added two doubles and two RBIs, while Peterson and Zac Kahn each collected two hits.

On the mound, Aidan Tinker turned in a strong outing, allowing one run on three hits over five innings while striking out four to earn his second win of the season. Noah Potholm followed with a scoreless sixth inning, striking out two, and Gabe Elliott closed the game with a clean seventh as darkness ended the contest early.

Swarthmore’s pitching staff limited NYU to five hits.

The Garnet enter spring break riding a five-game winning streak and have outscored opponents 76–32 through seven games.

Swarthmore will next face No. 16 Case Western Reserve in Lexington.

In other action
Arcadia dropped a tight non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon as No. 7 Kean used a two-run seventh inning to pull away for a 4–2 victory. The Knights briefly held the lead after Thomas Strauch delivered a two-run double down the right field line in the third inning, scoring Taro Pustilnik and Kevin Wheeler to put Arcadia ahead 2–1. Kean answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning to even the score, setting the stage for a back-and-forth contest.

Arcadia threatened to regain momentum in the fourth when it loaded the bases but was unable to push a run across. Kean eventually broke the 2–2 tie with two runs in the seventh to secure the win. Wheeler led the Knights offensively with three hits, while Strauch drove in both Arcadia runs. Will Buchan made his first collegiate start, allowing two runs over three innings, and Dylan Rasco took the loss despite allowing just one run while striking out four over 3.1 innings.
