Saturday’s slate across the local college landscape offered a little bit of everything—offensive outbursts, dominant pitching, and tightly contested splits.
At Gwynedd Mercy, Neumann opened conference play by earning a doubleheader split. The Knights (6–3, 1–1) took Game 1, 5–2, behind a decisive third inning and a standout performance from Andrew Brown, who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Nick Ciesielka added a two-run double in the rally, while Michael Harless delivered 6.1 strong innings to earn his first collegiate win.
Gwynedd Mercy answered in the nightcap, pulling away late for an 8–4 victory. Neumann jumped ahead early, but the Griffins surged in the middle innings to take control. Donovan Brooks paced the Knights offensively, finishing a perfect 5-for-5 with a double, RBI, and run scored, while Tyler Kilmer added three hits.
Widener followed a similar script, splitting its doubleheader with Alvernia but securing the series. The Pride (6–9, 3–3) dropped a tight 3–2 decision in Game 1 despite a solo home run from Brandon Yoder and a complete-game effort from Alex Epperly.
In Game 2, Widener leaned on pitching and timely power to claim a 3–1 win. Kevin Bukowski tied the game with an RBI triple before Brendan Raven delivered the decisive blow—a two-run home run. John Najdek was dominant on the mound, working 8.2 innings while allowing just one run.
At Eastern, the day was defined by dominance on the mound and heartbreak in extras. The Eagles (12–7, 2–4) opened with a 4–0 win over Hood behind Brennan Moloughney’s complete-game shutout—his second of the season. A four-run second inning provided all the offense he needed.
Eastern nearly completed the sweep but fell 5–4 in 10 innings in Game 2. Despite early run production and a four-hit performance from Trent MacDougall, Hood rallied late and walked it off in extras.
