West Chester closed out its stay in Cary, North Carolina with a commanding 12-2 win over Dominican on Sunday morning at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Golden Rams controlled the game from the outset and never allowed Dominican to build momentum.
Kyle Kearns made his first start of the spring and was sharp, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out three. Landen Rozich earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless fifth inning with two strikeouts while scattering two hits and a walk. Nick Cugino, Evan Wineburg, and Ben Jones each delivered scoreless innings out of the bullpen, while Patrick Taney allowed an unearned run in his frame.
West Chester struck immediately with a three-run first inning. Caleb Strawhecker and Austin Stalker each delivered RBI singles, and Chase Jones added a sacrifice bunt to give the Rams a 3-0 edge.
Dominican trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the third, but West Chester answered in the fifth with aggressive baserunning — Stalker stole home during a double steal to restore a three-run cushion.
The Rams broke it open in the sixth with five runs. Carter Rust doubled in a run, Stalker added another RBI single, and a combination of a wild pitch, bases-loaded walk, and an AJ DiAddezio sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 9-1.
Dominican capitalized on a West Chester error to score in the seventh, but the Rams sealed it with three more in the ninth. Luke Raho drove in a run with a single, another wild pitch brought him home, and Sean Slowinski capped the scoring with an RBI double to make it 12-2.
West Chester returns to action Tuesday against Chestnut Hill at Harford Community College.
