Penn Baseball - Philadelphia Baseball Review
Penn was three outs away.

Instead, the Quakers were left to absorb another gut-punch ending at Blue Bell Park in College Station.

No. 24 Texas A&M walked off Penn, 2-1, in 11 innings Saturday after Sawyer Farr drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th, forcing home the winning run and handing the Quakers a hard-luck defeat.

Penn (0-2) carried a 1-0 lead into the ninth behind a dominant effort from its pitching staff that held the Aggies scoreless through eight innings.

The Quakers broke through first in the third. Jay Secretarski reached and eventually scored when Gavin Collins lined a single through the left side, giving Penn a 1-0 advantage. Collins finished 3-for-5 with a double and the lone RBI, accounting for nearly half of Penn’s seven hits.

That run stood up thanks to a masterful start from Marty Coyne, who struck out nine over five shutout innings. He allowed four hits and one walk, consistently missing bats and navigating traffic. Luke Pokrovsky followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings to bridge the middle frames.

Texas A&M (6-0) finally broke through in the ninth against Connor Darling. With two outs, Farr doubled down the right-field line to score Terrence Kiel II and tie the game at 1-1, sending it to extras.

Penn had chances but couldn’t add on. The Quakers struck out 11 times and left five runners on base, unable to generate the separation needed against an Aggies bullpen that piled up 17 strikeouts overall.

In the 11th, Ben Moulin took over on the mound. Texas A&M loaded the bases, and Farr delivered again — this time working a full-count walk that brought home Kiel II to end it.

Penn’s pitching staff combined for 17 strikeouts of its own and limited the Aggies to two runs despite nine hits and four hit batters. But the inability to create cushion proved decisive.

The Quakers return to action against Texas A&M on Sunday, looking to convert strong pitching performances into a result — something that, so far this weekend, has remained just out of reach.
