Evan Profy delivered a clutch base hit with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, piercing through a drawn-in infield to secure a walk-off victory in game one. Then, in game two, Casey Vaughan added to the dramatics with a triple down the right-field line with the bases juiced, propelling host West Chester to a sweep of a conference doubleheader against No. 10 East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon at Serpico Stadium.
The wins boosted West Chester's record to 35-7 overall and 21-7 in the PSAC East, putting them within striking distance of second place in the Eastern Division standings, currently held by idle Millersville. Meanwhile, East Stroudsburg (35-9, 23-5) maintains its grip on first place, setting the stage for an exciting race as the season progresses in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
The Golden Rams took three of four over the weekend from East Stroudsburg, meaning the club has a chance to still win the PSAC Eastern Division.
West Chester will host first-place Millersville on Thursday in its final regular season home game at 1 p.m. at Serpico Stadium. The two teams will then finish their four-game season-ending conference series starting on Friday at Cooper Park in Millersville at 1 p.m.
The Golden Rams will enter the series two games off the pace.
At worst, the Golden Rams will enter the PSAC tournament holding the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Division.
Elsewhere, Jefferson wrapped up its regular season with a doubleheader sweep on the road at Bridgeport.
With their triumph in game two, Jefferson has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 30 wins for only the second time in program history and the first time since 1990 when the Rams boasted a formidable 34-15-1 record. Notably, 1990 also marked the last time Jefferson earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, showcasing the program's resurgence.
In the current baseball landscape, Jefferson's success has not gone unnoticed. The Rams are making waves by receiving votes in the NCBWA Top-25 poll and securing a third-place ranking in the NCBWA East Region standings.
The Rams will now await their opponent in the CACC Tournament on May 9 as the Rams are the #1 overall seed and will face either Felician or Caldwell on Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at Post University in Municipal Stadium.
