Alec Bohm
Just when Alec Bohm was finding his rhythm — again — the Phillies are losing him. Again.

Bohm was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a fractured rib on his left side, a lingering effect from a 94-mph sinker he took off the rib cage on July 12 in San Diego. He initially stayed in the game, missed the next day’s start, but returned for the Phillies' second-half opener on July 18.

He made it through seven innings. But by the eighth, manager Rob Thomson said, Bohm “felt something” during his final at-bat. The Phillies didn’t wait for a second opinion.

That’s a tough blow for a club clinging to first place — and even tougher for a player who had quietly become one of their most reliable hitters.

After a sluggish April, Bohm had been one of the Phillies’ most productive bats since early May. In 92 games this season, the 28-year-old was slashing .278/.324/.391 with 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 42 RBIs, and 39 runs scored. But those numbers don’t tell the whole story.

Since May 3, Bohm ranked second among all National League hitters with a .309 average (72-for-233) and carried an .817 OPS over that stretch. He wasn’t just making contact — he was making impact. Since the start of May alone, he was hitting .304 with eight home runs, 34 RBIs, and 28 runs scored.

With Bohm down, the Phillies recalled utility man Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 29-year-old hit just .194 with one home run and four RBIs during an earlier stint in Philadelphia but had been showing more life at the plate in Allentown.

Still, Bohm’s absence leaves a hole. He may not be the flashiest name in a lineup full of them, but over the past two months, he’s quietly been one of the most important.

And now, he’s sidelined again — just as things were starting to heat up.
