Saint Joseph's - Philadelphia Baseball Review
Saint Joseph’s continues to separate itself at the top of the Atlantic 10.

The Hawks completed a weekend sweep with a 12–2, seven-inning win over La Salle on Sunday, securing their program-record 19th conference victory and extending their lead in the standings to five games.

At 29–14 overall and 19–2 in league play, Saint Joseph’s now holds both the best conference record and the most overall wins in the Atlantic 10.

The Hawks took control early and never allowed the game to settle.

Joey Gale opened the first inning with a walk and later scored on a double by Richard Beggy to give Saint Joseph’s an early lead. An RBI groundout added a second run before La Salle answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half to make it 2–1.

The game broke open in the second inning.

Tim Dickinson led off with a triple, and a walk to Alex Venezia set the table for Gale, who delivered an RBI double to extend the lead and chase the La Salle starter. The Hawks continued to apply pressure, scoring additional runs on wild pitches and bases-loaded situations before Dickinson added a two-run single to cap the inning and push the lead to 8–1.

Saint Joseph’s continued to add on in the middle innings.

A two-out error in the fourth allowed two runs to score, extending the lead to 10–1. In the fifth, Jason Janesko delivered a two-run double to bring the margin to 12–1.

La Salle (18–26, 4–17 A-10) managed a run in the sixth and loaded the bases with no outs, but reliever Matt Fitzgibbon entered and escaped the inning without further damage. He then struck out three of the next four batters to close out the game via the run rule.

Luke Parise earned the win for Saint Joseph’s, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings while striking out four to improve to 6–1 on the season.

The Hawks’ offense remained balanced throughout.

Blake Primrose, Janesko, and Dickinson each collected two hits. Primrose and Joey Pagano scored three runs apiece, while Janesko drove in three runs and Dickinson added two RBIs. Venezia and Pagano each drew three walks as Saint Joseph’s consistently created traffic on the bases.

The Hawks have now scored in the first inning in 16 of their 21 conference games, continuing a trend of early-game production that has helped them control the pace of play throughout the season.

The 19 conference victories set a new program record, surpassing the previous mark of 18 set in 2014.

Saint Joseph’s will conclude its non-conference schedule Tuesday at Villanova before returning its focus to conference play, where it remains firmly in control of the Atlantic 10 race.
