Haverford - Philadelphia Baseball Review
Haverford didn’t need much Friday afternoon — just one swing in the ninth.

First-year Sammy Angel delivered it.

Angel lined a walk-off double to the left-field wall, scoring pinch-runner Jack Phiel as the Fords edged Muhlenberg, 4-3, in a Centennial Conference matchup at Kannerstein Field.

The win pushed Haverford to 9-16 overall and 3-5 in conference play, but more importantly, it showcased the kind of late-game resilience that often defines the Centennial season.

Haverford grabbed control early.

Miles Prusek sparked the offense in the second, reaching base, stealing second, and eventually scoring on a Tommy Belman single. An inning later, the Fords manufactured another run, as Mauro DeCillis reached, advanced into scoring position, and came home on a Jackson Sgro double to push the lead to 2-0.

For five innings, starter Sam Cohen kept Muhlenberg in check, working efficiently and limiting traffic. But the game shifted in the sixth.

Muhlenberg pieced together three straight singles with two outs to tie the game at 2-2, erasing Haverford’s early advantage and resetting the tone of the afternoon.

The response was immediate.

Luke Treese stepped in during the bottom half and sent a solo home run to right field, giving the Fords a 3-2 lead and restoring momentum. But once again, Muhlenberg answered, using a leadoff double and an RBI single in the seventh to even the score at 3-3.

From there, the game tightened.

Both bullpens settled in, with Drew Doyle delivering two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, working around late traffic to keep the game within reach.

That set the stage for the ninth.

Belman was hit by a pitch to open the inning before Phiel entered as a pinch runner. A well-executed sacrifice bunt moved the go-ahead run into scoring position, and moments later, Angel delivered — driving a ball deep to left to bring Phiel home and end it.

Six different players recorded hits for Haverford, with Angel, Sgro, and Treese providing the extra-base impact. The Fords also stayed aggressive throughout, swiping five bases and consistently pressuring the defense.

Haverford will look to carry that momentum into a difficult test Saturday, when it travels to face conference power Johns Hopkins in a doubleheader.
