PHILADELPHIA — Blake Primrose closed the week in dominant fashion, powering Saint Joseph’s offense over the final three games of the Bucknell series and earning Philadelphia Baseball Review Player of the Week honors presented by Wheelhouse Cards for the week of March 1.
Across those three games, Primrose went 8-for-13 (.615) with six runs scored, four RBIs, three doubles and a home run, consistently setting the tone in the middle of the Hawks lineup. The catcher reached base in each contest and delivered his most impactful performance in Sunday’s 13–3 win, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a home run as Saint Joseph’s secured the series victory.
Primrose also shined in Saturday’s contest, finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs, while drawing two walks and reaching base five times. He opened the Bucknell series with a 2-for-4 effort that helped spark the Hawks’ offense in a tight 2–0 victory.
Beyond his production at the plate, Primrose continued to provide steady defense behind the plate. Over the three games he handled 26 defensive chances without an error, helping guide a pitching staff that combined for 15 strikeouts without issuing a walk in Friday’s series opener.
The surge raised Primrose’s season average to .370, as the sophomore catcher has quickly emerged as one of the Hawks’ most reliable offensive threats early in the season. Over the Bucknell weekend alone, his combination of power, run production and leadership behind the plate played a key role in Saint Joseph’s securing two victories in the three-game set.
On the pitching side, Duke McCarron delivered the most dominant outing of the week in the Philadelphia college baseball landscape, earning Philadelphia Baseball Review Pitcher of the Week honors presented by Wheelhouse Cards.
The Saint Joseph’s right-hander turned in five scoreless innings in the Hawks’ 2–0 victory over Bucknell, allowing just two hits while striking out seven and issuing no walks. McCarron faced only 18 batters on 70 pitches, consistently attacking the zone and keeping Bucknell’s offense from generating sustained pressure.
The outing set the tone for the Hawks’ pitching staff in the series opener. McCarron worked efficiently through the Bison lineup, retiring the side in order multiple times and allowing just two base runners across his five innings. Both hits he surrendered were singles, and Bucknell never advanced a runner into scoring position against him.
McCarron’s command was particularly notable. After battling control issues earlier in the season, the junior delivered a clean performance that included seven strikeouts without a walk, repeatedly finishing hitters with swing-and-miss stuff while staying ahead in counts.
The strong start earned McCarron his first win of the season and provided the foundation for one of the Hawks’ most complete pitching efforts of the year. The Saint Joseph’s staff combined for 15 strikeouts and zero walks in the shutout victory, with McCarron’s steady five-inning start establishing the momentum.
