Bryson Stott launched a towering home run into the upper deck in right field, while Kody Clemens drove in two runs as the NL East-leading Phillies secured a 5-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday night, extending their winning streak to five games.
With the victory, the Phillies (84-56) opened up an eight-game lead in the division, with just 22 games remaining. Thursday marked the first of a four-game set against the Marlins.
Ranger Suárez (12-6) was sharp, scattering three hits across five scoreless innings. He threw 82 pitches, striking out four while walking two. It was a strong bounce-back performance after a rough outing against Atlanta, where he surrendered four runs in just four innings. Manager Rob Thomson, mindful of Suárez's pitch count, pulled him before the sixth inning, even with a pitch limit of 90.
Bryce Harper, recovering from being hit by a pitch on the left elbow in Toronto, went 0-for-3 but worked a walk. Matt Strahm closed out the ninth with a perfect inning for his third save of the season.
On the mound for Miami, Adam Oller (1-2) labored, allowing four runs on five hits and five walks over 5 1/3 innings.
Stott got the Phillies on the board early with an RBI single in the first, and his 11th homer of the season in the sixth doubled the lead. Clemens broke things open later in the inning, driving in two with a double off Anthony Veneziano, then scoring on a wild pitch to cap a four-run frame.
Ahead of the game, Thomson announced that right-hander Seth Johnson will be called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make his major league debut on Sunday. The 25-year-old, originally a 40th overall pick by Toronto in 2019, has bounced around since being traded to Baltimore in 2022 before landing with the Phillies in the Gregory Soto deal on July 30.
