Edward Cabrera stifled the Phillies for seven scoreless innings on Sunday, leading the Miami Marlins to a 10-1 victory over Philadelphia at loanDepot park.
Cabrera, 26, allowed just three hits, struck out six, and walked one in his dominant outing. He didn't surrender a hit until Brandon Marsh singled to lead off the sixth inning. The right-hander, originally slated to pitch on Friday before being scratched due to migraine-like symptoms, improved to 4-6 on the season.
Connor Norby homered twice, while rookie Griffin Conine collected three hits for the Marlins, who took the final two games of the four-game series after getting routed 16-2 on Friday. Javier Sanoja added a double and a single as Miami claimed a small victory by narrowing the Phillies' season series edge to 7-6.
The lone Phillies run came in the ninth inning on an RBI single from Bryce Harper, one of his two hits on the day.
Miami broke the game open in the third inning, chasing Phillies rookie starter Seth Johnson with a seven-run outburst. Consecutive RBI singles from Otto López, Conine, and Sanoja pushed the lead to 7-0 before Nick Fortes drove Johnson from the game with an RBI double. Norby then capped the frame with his second two-run homer, this time off reliever Max Lazar.
Johnson, 25, allowed nine runs on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings in his major league debut, just a day after being promoted from Triple-A. Philadelphia catcher Garrett Stubbs pitched a scoreless eighth inning, offering brief relief to a beleaguered bullpen.
Before the game, the Phillies placed infielder Edmundo Sosa on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Saturday) due to back spasms.
Philadelphia will look to rebound on Monday when left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (10-9, 3.45 ERA) takes the mound for the series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. He'll face off against Rays lefty Jeffrey Springs (2-2, 3.27 ERA)
