Philadelphia hosts San Diego to wrap first half
The Philadelphia Phillies open a seven-game trip out west beginning tonight with a series opener at Petco Park against the reeling San Diego Padres who have dropped eight of their last 11 contests.

Jerad Eickhoff gets the start tonight for the Phillies, aiming to build off his previous seven stars where he's gone 3-0 with a 3.10 ERA. He allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings in his previous start against Atlanta.

"I feel like I'm hitting my spots and pitching well right now," Eickhoff said last week. "I feel my stuff has just been better and that's allowed me to pitch ahead more often."

Rhys Hoskins collected his first major league hit and RBI in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Mets. He admitted he was pressing a bit, but now hopes to just focus on productive outcomes at the plate.

"There's not much you can do once the ball leaves the bat, so I thought I was having good at-bats for the most part," Hoskins said Sunday. "Some things weren't going my way, and these guys are pretty good up here, so it's a combination of that."
