Saint Joseph's alum Deon Stafford named an All-Star
Saint Joseph's alum Deon Stafford is a South Atlantic League All-Star and will participate in the league's mid-summer classic on June 19th in Greensboro, NC.

Stafford, a catcher in the Pirates' organization, is hitting .270/.329/.441 in 40 games this year for the West Virginia Power with four homers and 19 RBIs.

The 22-year-old was selected by the Pirates in the fifth round last year and made the New York Penn League All-Star team in his debut season.

MLB Pipeline ranks Stafford as the No. 30 prospect within the Pirates' organization.

"There's work to be done on Stafford's defensive game, but the Pirates are committed to allowing him to develop behind the plate," reads Stafford's scouting report on MLB Pipeline. "If he can progress there, he has the makings of an offensive-minded backstop who can at least be a serviceable backup at the highest level."
