AMBLER -- Arcadia opened the MAC Freedom semifinals the way a higher seed is supposed to — with control early, separation late, and just enough pitching to finish it.
The Knights built a lead through the middle innings and held off a late push to secure a 6-3 win over Misericordia on Friday, improving to 26-13 on the season.
Misericordia struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Arcadia answered immediately.
Solomon Abdullah tied the game in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly that brought home Kevin Wheeler, settling things quickly after the early deficit. An inning later, Hunter Dicarlantonio gave Arcadia the lead for good with another sacrifice fly, scoring Will Childs to make it 2-1.
From there, the game settled into a rhythm behind Arcadia’s pitching.
LJ Wolff provided stability on the mound, working six innings while allowing just one run on six hits. He walked one and struck out five, keeping Misericordia from stringing together momentum.
The separation came late.
In the seventh, Max Oswald delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon — a two-run home run to left that pushed the lead to 4-1 and gave Arcadia breathing room.
They weren’t finished.
Later in the inning, Abdullah came through again, dropping a two-out, two-run single into right-center that brought home Taro Pustilnik and Noah Stennett, stretching the advantage to 6-1.
Misericordia made things interesting in the ninth, scoring twice against the bullpen, but Arcadia never lost control.
Gavin Kincs closed it out, working the final three innings to earn his fifth save, striking out five without issuing a walk.
Abdullah led the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while six different players crossed the plate in a balanced attack.
With the win, Arcadia takes control of the semifinal series and will look to close it out when play resumes Saturday.
