Trea Turner
In a game that swung from tense to triumphant, Trea Turner delivered when it mattered most. With the bases loaded and the outfield drawn in, Turner lashed a single off the base of the wall in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the Nationals on Friday night.

The win, Philadelphia’s third straight, came after Washington had erased a two-run deficit in the top of the inning. Turner’s night was emblematic of his recent resurgence, as he collected three singles and a double. Nick Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto each added RBIs as the Phillies, now 41-22 at Citizens Bank Park, solidified their hold on the NL East, where they lead the Braves by seven games.

The ninth inning was a sequence of missteps and missed opportunities for Washington. Brandon Marsh, who entered as a defensive replacement, started things off with a single to right that was misplayed by Alex Call, allowing Marsh to advance to second. Pinch-hitter Cal Stevenson then laid down a bunt, aiming to move Marsh to third, but pitcher Kyle Finnegan and third baseman José Tena both failed to field the ball. With the bases loaded and no outs, Turner’s shot to left sealed the victory.

On the mound, Aaron Nola, Matt Strahm, and Jeff Hoffman combined for eight scoreless innings, navigating through multiple threats. Strahm worked out of a two-on, two-out jam in the seventh by getting Call to fly out, while Hoffman stranded a runner on second in the eighth by inducing a pop-out and striking out Keibert Ruiz.

But the ninth inning saw closer Carlos Estévez falter, surrendering back-to-back singles to open the frame. A José Tena single and a groundout by Jacob Young knotted the score at two, but Estévez rebounded with consecutive strikeouts of Call and C.J. Abrams, setting the stage for Turner’s heroics.

In addition to the win, Alec Bohm quietly extended his on-base streak to 33 games with a single in the first inning.

Injury Updates
Skipper Rob Thomson said hurler Ranger Suarez and outfielder Austin Hays will participate in a simulated game at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday. Suarez could go on a rehab stint as early as this week, while Hays can return from the IL on  Monday.
