The Phillies aim to snap a three-game losing skid on Tuesday night as Aaron Nola takes the mound in Cincinnati to face the Reds.
The Phillies were walloped on Memorial Day by the Reds, 11-1. Their -33 run differential is the eighth-worst in baseball. The club finished May with a 12-16 record and now sit five games off the pace in the NL East.
"There's probably some times where it's obvious that we're frustrated, right?" Rhys Hoskins said following Monday's loss. "Nobody likes to go through stretches like this. But that's kind of part of a long season. We've got to find a way to pick each other up and weather the storm."
Nola pitched well in his last outing, tossing six strong innings while surrendering just one run on two hits. He whiffed six. He enters tonight two strikeouts shy of becoming the ninth hurler in franchise history to record 1,000 strikeouts.
The Reds counter tonight with veteran right-hander Sonny Gray. He carries a 2-0 career record against the Phillies with a 3.09 ERA over two starts.
