Jefferson Rams
Right-handed junior Danny Kerr turned in a strong debut Friday, tossing 109 pitches over six innings while allowing three runs—two earned—to lead Jefferson to a season-opening 6-5 win over Arkansas Tech at Daiken Park in Houston.

The Wonder Boys, who went 38-20 last season and reached the NCAA regionals, took an early 1-0 lead, but Jefferson responded with two runs in the second and three more in the third.

Gabe Silva set the tone atop the lineup, scoring three times and swiping a pair of bases. Tyler Behm recorded a three-inning save, striking out five, though he surrendered a two-run homer in the ninth.

The Rams are coming off a historic season in which they finished 33-17, reached the CACC Championship Finals, and made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1990. With Friday’s win, head coach Pat Horvath is now three victories shy of setting the program record for career wins.

Jefferson continues its opening weekend Saturday against Mississippi College before closing out Sunday against No. 4 Central Missouri.
