Swarthmore kicked off their 2024 campaign in impressive fashion on Friday, securing a pair of victories at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md. They first dominated Montclair State University with a commanding 17-7 win before triumphing over Mount Aloysius College with an 8-1 scoreline. 
 
Displaying formidable prowess at the plate, the Garnet boasted an impressive .337 team batting average across the two matchups. Standout performances included Max Roffwarg, who collected four hits on the day. Additionally, Aidan Sullivan, Jett Shue, and Matthew Silvestre showcased their offensive prowess by each driving in five runs alongside multiple hits. Notably, Silvestre electrified the team by launching the first home run of the season. 
 
On the pitching front, Swarthmore witnessed a standout performance from Noah Potholm during the nightcap. Potholm delivered a masterful display on the mound, limiting Mount Aloysius College to just one run and two hits over seven innings. He matched his career-high with nine strikeouts. 
 
Liam Alpern struggled in his start, surrendering six runs over 2 2/3 innings in the contest against Montclair State. 
 
In other Philly D-III action, Gwynedd Mercy opened their new facility with an impressive 3-1 victory over Washington College. Senior pitcher Frank Ebling started for Griffins and finished with seven innings pitched allowing four hits, no walks, one earned run, and a career-high ten strikeouts. Gwynedd Mercy will host local foe Haverford for a doubleheader on Saturday.
