Brandon Wooldridge, Alex Kitrosser, Kevin Ambs, Aidan Jones and Max Tagliber helped lead the attack as Colonial Select finished with 12 hits. The lineup produced runs in each of the first three innings and gave the Prospects little opportunity to work their way back into the game.
Kitrosser, who went 3-for-3 with a walk, started the offensive surge with a single in the first inning. He said the key to producing a high-scoring game is creating opportunities immediately.
“I think it all starts with base runners early, and that’s what we harp on to score runs,” Kitrosser said.
Colonial Select scored 10 of its 11 runs over the first three innings, turning the game into a comfortable lead before the midway point. Kitrosser said the team has plenty of talent throughout the lineup, but its chemistry has also played an important role in its success.
“I think we just have a family culture around here,” Kitrosser said. “We’ve built it for a lot of years. We’ve been playing for a while, so I think that’s the main reason.”
Ambs added to the offensive production with an RBI triple in the second inning before driving in another run with a single in the third. He said his approach centered on remaining aggressive while still adjusting to the count.
“Just being aggressive at the plate, swinging early, getting into good hitter’s counts, and if I’m behind, just protecting, putting the ball in play and helping my team,” Ambs said.
Colonial Select’s lineup has produced consistently throughout the season. The victory marked the fifth time the club has scored at least 10 runs in a game, illustrating the depth and pressure the lineup can create when multiple hitters are reaching base.
Coach Dave Scopinich said it was encouraging to see the team maintain its energy and execute despite playing several games during the week.
“They came out and did their job tonight,” Scopinich said. “You know what? We’ve had a couple games this week, and it’s good to see the energy levels stay high.”
Scopinich also credited assistant coach Eric Fisher for helping reinforce the fundamentals that have contributed to the team’s strong season. Fisher also serves as an assistant coach with the Plymouth Whitemarsh varsity baseball program.
“We’re lucky,” Scopinich said. “We have a great coach, Eric Fisher, here, who is one of the assistant coaches on the Plymouth Whitemarsh varsity team and preaches fundamentals, preaches playing the right way, having good at-bats and doing the next right thing. The kids respond to it very well, so we’re really fortunate.”
With Colonial Select reaching double-digit wins and continuing to produce runs in bunches, Kitrosser said the team is confident it can sustain its level of play through the remainder of the season.
“Just keep doing what we’re doing, playing with confidence and hopefully win the championship,” Kitrosser said.
