In a game where offense was at a premium, Total Skills Tropics 18O capitalized on a pair of fourth-inning opportunities and leaned on a dominant pitching performance to earn a 3-0 victory over the Philly Mummers on Tuesday.
For three innings, neither team could solve the opposing starter. Philly Mummers right-hander Mason Keith matched zeros with Total Skills starter Jack Hogenauer, setting the stage for a tightly contested battle.
The breakthrough finally came in the top of the fourth. Total Skills took advantage of a Mummers error to push across the game's first run before Daniel Giordano followed with an RBI single to center field, extending the lead to 2-0. An additional run later provided all the support the pitching staff would need.
Keith was impressive despite taking the loss, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings while striking out one and walking two.
Hogenauer was even tougher. The Total Skills starter worked five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six and issuing four walks.
Giordano paced the Total Skills offense from the lower half of the lineup, collecting two hits in three at-bats while driving in a run. Spinks also contributed an RBI, while Hogenauer helped his own cause by drawing two walks as part of a patient offensive approach that produced six free passes.
The Mummers generated only limited offense against the Total Skills staff. Chris Ortlip, James Quici, Owen Pinkerton, and Jake Andrews accounted for the club's hits.
