Each week throughout the college baseball season, the Philadelphia Baseball Review recognizes standout performances across all divisions with our College Player and Pitcher of the Week honors, celebrating the region’s top talent and exceptional achievements.

Widener pitcher Sean Curran delivered a masterclass performance on the mound in a 4-0 win over Stevenson, earning this week's College Player of the Week honors. The right-handed graduate student from Upper Dublin threw his second complete game shutout of the season, showcasing impressive control and composure.

Over seven innings, Curran struck out seven batters while allowing only six hits. His 1.52 ERA over 29 2/3 innings this season has been a standout feature of his campaign, and his ability to dominate hitters was on full display against Stevenson. With 28 strikeouts and an unshakable presence on the mound, Curran continues to prove he is one of the top pitchers in Division III baseball.

On the offensive side, Curran’s teammate, sophomore outfielder Jack Balcer, earned our D-III Offensive Player of the Week honors. Balcer had a phenomenal week at the plate, finishing 12-for-22 (.545) with six RBIs and a home run. His eight hits in the series against Stevenson were instrumental in Widener's conference sweep, and his bat has been one of the key contributors to the Pride’s recent success.

For nearly a decade, the Philadelphia Baseball Review has been dedicated to recognizing and highlighting the top amateur talent across the region. Stay tuned each week as we continue to celebrate the standout players making their mark on the college baseball diamond.
