This past weekend, the Phillies marked 20 years at Citizens Bank Park, a milestone that prompts a look back at which players have thrived the most in the ballpark’s history. Offensively, one stat stands out: Trea Turner is the only Phillie with a batting average over .300 at Citizens Bank Park, hitting .311. Bobby Abreu follows closely at .299, with Bryce Harper right behind at .295. Harper also owns the highest wOBA at .410, with Abreu (.407) and Pat Burrell (.393) not far behind.
When it comes to power, Ryan Howard’s 197 home runs at Citizens Bank Park seem untouchable. The closest active player, Harper, has 87. Jimmy Rollins’ 3,586 plate appearances are also likely to stand the test of time; Harper, currently at 1,510, has a long way to go. Harper ranks fifth in RBIs with 243, just ten behind Burrell’s 253.
On the pitching side, Cole Hamels leads all pitchers in innings logged at Citizens Bank Park with 948.2, followed by Aaron Nola’s 796. Cliff Lee is a distant third at 424. Zack Wheeler boasts the best ERA among qualified starters, with a 2.65 mark. Lee is second at 2.84. Nola holds the best WHIP at 1.06, just ahead of Lee and Roy Halladay, who both posted a 1.09 WHIP.
Here’s some interesting tidbits: Vince Velasquez pitched 84 fewer innings than Halladay at Citizens Bank Park, yet recorded 13 more strikeouts (335 to Halladay’s 323). On the flip side, Adam Eaton holds the dubious distinction of the highest opponent batting average among pitchers who threw more than 100 innings at CBP, with hitters batting .323 against him. Eaton is also the only pitcher in that group with an opponent batting average over .300, and not surprisingly, he owns the highest ERA as well (6.68).
As for strikeout rates, Harper’s 22.1% edges out Burrell’s 21.6% as the worst at CBP. Of all qualified hitters (21), Kyle Schwarber has the lowest batting average at CBP, hitting just .222, with David Bell next at .253.
