Alec Bohm Phillies
With Alec Bohm set to participate in tonight's Home Run Derby in Arlington, it’s a good time to revisit the Phillies’ significant contributions to the event over the years. From Bobby Abreu’s record-setting performance in 2005 to Ryan Howard’s victory in 2006, the Phillies have left a mark on this showcase of power hitting.

Abreu’s Record-Setting Night
In 2005, Bobby Abreu put on a memorable display at Comerica Park in Detroit. Abreu hit a then-record 41 home runs throughout the competition, including 24 in the first round, setting a high bar for future participants.

“I was just trying to have fun,” Abreu said after his record-setting night. “It was an amazing experience.”

Howard’s Heroics
Ryan Howard followed up with a standout performance in 2006 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Howard hit 23 home runs, defeating David Wright of the Mets in the final round. His win added to his impressive resume, which included the National League MVP award that same year. Howard returned to the Derby in 2007 at San Francisco’s AT&T Park. Though he didn't win, his participation underscored his status as one of the game’s premier power hitters.

Thome and Utley: A Showcase of Strength
In 2004, Jim Thome showcased his power at Minute Maid Park in Houston, hitting 15 home runs in the first round. While he didn't advance to the finals, his performance highlighted his place among the game's elite sluggers.

Chase Utley competed in the 2008 Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium. Though he didn’t advance past the first round, Utley’s participation highlighted his role in the Phillies’ powerful lineup during their successful run in the late 2000s.

Schwarber and Hoskins: Falling Short
Kyle Schwarber represented the Phillies in the 2022 Home Run Derby at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He faced Albert Pujols in a memorable first-round matchup. Although Schwarber was eliminated, his powerful swing was a reminder of the Phillies' presence in the Derby.

Rhys Hoskins participated in 2018, finishing third in the contest.

Bohm's 2024 Participation
Bohm, who has 11 home runs this season, expressed his excitement after Wednesday night's win over the Dodgers.

"I'm pretty excited, they asked me, I'm not going to say no," Bohm said. "The guy isn't throwing 98 (mph), so I figured what the heck, let's see how many we can hit."

While Bohm isn't typically associated with home run power, his swing can produce a lot of home runs if he gets into a groove. He is becoming one of the best run producers in MLB, currently tied for fourth in the majors with 70 RBI.

If you are hoping to see Bohm capture this year's crown, he is the longest shot of all at 16/1.
