Wheeler

Zack Wheeler carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, and Kody Clemens delivered a walk-off single to lift the Phillies past the Tigers in a 3-2 win on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park.

The victory marked the fifth straight win for the Phillies. Bryce Harper led off the final frame with a double off of reliever Alex Lange. Trea Turner then worked a walk, and Bryson Stott hit an infield single deep to the hole near shortstop. Brandon Marsh followed with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to left to even the contest in the ninth, then Clemens ripped a 96-mph sinker to right to push Turner home with the winning run.

Wheeler retired Akil Baddoo on a grounder to begin the eighth. Jonathan Schoop then hit a ball down the third-base line and Josh Harrison attempted to make a play, but his throw was in the dirt and Schoop was safe on the error. Tyler Nevin followed with a single to right to break up the no-hit bid.

Wheeler hurled 108 pitches over 7 1/3 innings. He whiffed eight, walked one and hit a batter. Clemens finished 2-for-4 on the night, raising his average to .267 on the year.
