Craig Larsen and Peter Giombetti each drove in a run in the ninth inning to lift Villanova past Lehigh on Monday afternoon in a Liberty Bell Classic quarterfinal at Walker Field, 9-7.
Senior centerfield AJ Hansen had a standout performance on the day, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Paul Cooke chipped in with three hits of his own in the victory.
The two clubs matched each other all afternoon until the final frame, with Lehigh scoring two runs in the eighth to even the contest.
The two lineups combined for 29 hits.
Patrick Montfort picked up the win, though he surrendered two runs on four hits over an inning of work. Cade Udell secured the save, his first of the season.
Larsen and Giombetti collected three hits each.
The Wildcats will host a Liberty Bell Classic semifinal game on April 4. The winner will advance to the championship at Citizens Bank Park on April 18.
