Villanova baseball
Villanova pieced together its first win of the season on Friday, knocking off North Florida in Jacksonville, 2-1. 

John Whooley drove in a run with a fielder's choice in the second inning, while Jack O'Reilly finished with two hits and drove in the game-winning run in the fourth with an RBI double. 

Chic DeGaetano secured the victory, surrendering one run over 3 1/3 innings in relief. Sal Fusco started for Villanova, hurling two scoreless frames, though he did walk four batters. 

Patrick Montfort recorded the save, shutting down North Florida over the final 2 1/3 innings while collecting four strikeouts. 

The two clubs resume their three-game set on Saturday. 

In other D-I action 
No. 23 South Carolina 7, Penn 4 
A five-run second inning put the game out of reach for the Quakers. Owen Coady surrendered five runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings. Ben Miller delivered the offensive highlight of the day for Penn with a two-run homer in the seventh. Wyatt Henseler finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.
