Andrew Yates launched a double down the left-field line to push across Nick Barenz with what turned out to be the winning run on Wednesday in the sixth inning to lift Widener past Kean in the season opener for both clubs, 2-1.

Barenz reached earlier in the frame after he hit a one-out double to right center field.

Kean scored a run in the opening frame, but Kyle Brex helped Widener answer in the third with an RBI double to plate Stephen Posner to even the contest.

Brex, Yates, and Anthony Boccio collected two hits each in the winning effort.

Hayden O'Neill tossed four scoreless frames in relief to secure a win for the Pride in his collegiate debut. He surrendered one hit while whiffing a pair.

Kyle Laing surrendered a leadoff double in the ninth but settled down to nail down his second career save.

Widener returns to action with a doubleheader at Shenandoah on Saturday.
