Uelmen acquired by the Phillies
The Phillies acquired right-handed relief pitcher Erich Uelmen from the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.

Uelmen, 26, pitched in 25 games with the Cubs in 2022 and posted a 4.67 ERA. Right-handed hitters batted just .210 against him over 71 plate appearances.

A fourth-round selection by Chicago in the 2017 MLB Draft, Uelmen has minor league options and can provide depth in the middle of the bullpen alongside other righties in Nick Nelson, Andrew Bellatti, and Connor Brogdon.

To make room for Uelmen on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Vinny Nittoli was designated for assignment.

The club also inked a local talent in infielder Jim Haley, signing the Bonner-Prendergast High School graduate over the weekend to a minor league deal.

The 27-year-old Penn State product spent the past four seasons in the Tampa Bay organization. He hit .231 with 18 home runs and 47 RBIs in 112 games this past year in Triple-A.

Haley was the 2013 Delaware County Daily Times Baseball Player of the Year and drafted in the 19th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft following three stellar seasons with the Nittany Lions.
