Phillies prospect Francisco Morales
The Phillies made some roster moves on Friday, adding six players to the 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 draft set for next month.

The club added left-handers Kyle Dohy, Damon Jones, and Bailey Falter; right-hander Francisco Morales; infielder Nick Maton and outfielder Simon Muzziotti to the 40-man roster.

Of the six, Morales appears to have the highest ceiling. He's currently the No. 4 prospect in the organization, according to Baseball America. The 6-5, 260-pound righty is 21-years-old and projects as a middle of the rotation starter. His fastball touches the upper 90's, and he mixes in an above-average slider. He's yet to pitch above Class A, so he's likely at least a year away from reaching the Majors.

Muzziotti is a solid center fielder with above-average speed. He's a contact hitter and could develop into a pesky out at the top of the lineup. He was an All-Star in the Florida State League in 2019.

Dohy and James both project as relievers and could play a role with the Phillies in 2021.

Falter posted a 3.84 ERA for Double-A Reading in 2019 and projects as a potential back-end of the rotation starter.

Matton appears to be primed for a shot at a utility role, potentially as early as 2021. He can play the middle infield and was a two-time All-Star at the minor league level.

The Phillies didn't lose a player in last year's Rule 5 draft and traded away their lone selection - utility player Vimael Machin - in a deal with Oakland for cash considerations.

Over the years, the Phillies have had some successes in the Rule 5 draft, selecting among others Shane Victorino, Todd Pratt, and Odubel Herrera.
