Kyle Wenger signs deal with Somerset Patriots
Former Delaware Valley University standout Kyle Wenger has signed a professional contract with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League, the club announced on Sunday.

Wenger, a product of Souderton High School, finished his time with the Aggies as the programs all-time batting leader with a career batting average of .448. He hit .431 as a senior in 2017 and was named to the All-MAC Freedom First Team.

Wenger participated in an open tryout at TD Bank Ballpark earlier this month in an attempt to secure a roster spot.

“The tryout itself was such a good turnout of talent. We had six or seven guys that I legitimately felt had a shot to make our club,” Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie said in a statement. “We decided to invite Kyle in to see what he could do in live situations. He’s been hustling, making some good defensive plays, and he hasn’t seen a pitch he didn’t like so far. I like his attitude. He not trying to press. He’s having fun and just enjoying the game.”

Somerset opens the 2019 season this Friday with a visit from New Britain. The Patriots finished last season with the third most wins in the Atlantic League with a record of 72-54.
