Phillies acquire Jose Bautista
Jose Bautista is touring the NL East, or so it seems, with his next stop being Philadelphia. The Phillies acquired the 37-year-old veteran via a trade with the New York Mets on Tuesday afternoon.

In exchange, the Phillies will send either cash or a player to be named later to the Mets.

The Phillies had claimed Bautista on revocable trade waivers on Monday, meaning the club earned the right to negotiate with the Mets to secure his services. The Mets could have retained his rights, but with a logjam in the outfield elected to ship him to Philly.

Over 95 games this season Bautista is hitting just .196 with 14 doubles, 11 homers and 42 RBI. He'll be a bat off the bench for the Phillies down the stretch.

To make room on the 40-man roster the Phillies designated reliever Mark Leiter Jr. for assignment.
