This article is the third in a lengthy series chronicling the 1925 Hilldale baseball club and their journey through the Eastern Colored League.

New York, N.Y. – A capacity crowd turned out at the Protectory Oval Sunday, to witness the season’s first doubleheader between the Lincoln Giants and Hilldale.

The Darby team proved that they are still the champions, winning both games handily – the first by a score of 6-4, and the other, 12-9.

Heavy batting was the feature of both games and a total of eight home runs were garnered in the two games. Carr and Hudspeth, the two first basemen, led their teammates at bat with a home run in each game. Others who made circuit lots were: Winters, Warfield Jules Thomas and George Johnson.

The Lincolns were very much handicapped by the lack of good pitchers. John Taylor, their best pitcher, was used in the first game and practically the whole remaining pitching staff was used in the other.

Nip Winters, Currie and Ryan did the honors for Hilldale.

Note: The box scores are listed below, but take note of how it appears. Unlike today's box scores, newspapers prior to the 1940s normally would include only runs scored, hits, outs recorded as a fielder, assists, and errors. This makes stat tracking extremely difficult, but this is how it was done in 1925.

Additional Note: The Chicago Defender box scores from the doubleheader included at-bats instead of errors, but the Afro-American box score included errors (there were a ton on both sides), so the boxes below are a compilation. Neither paper printed assists.

Further Note: I know fielding was a bit suspect, but after reviewing this further I can't see the two teams combining for 25 errors in a single game,  I'm making an educated guess here that though the  Afro-American included "e" in the box score, it meant to be an "a". The only mention of an error in the Defender box is on Frank Warfield.
