With a spot open with the departure of the Upper Moreland Brewers, the Pendel League announced Monday the Upper Moreland Rebels have joined the league for the 2014 season.

"The Pendel league is pleased to announce that their will be a new Upper Moreland franchise lead by head coach Mike Valenza," according to a statement on the league's Web site.

The Upper Moreland Brewers will play in the Perky League in 2014. "The team will be made up of collegiate and club baseball players from local colleges. These kids have played together for years and their Upper Moreland high school team coached by Ken Irwin, made it to the state finals 2 years ago. This is a very talented team that will contend for the Pendel Championship in its first year."

The Brewers won five consecutive Pendel League championships and announced their departure a few weeks back to join the Perkiomen Valley Twilight League.

In other Pendel League news, the Glenside Hawks will return to the league for the 2014 season. The club was forced to fold midway through last season due to a lack of players and health issues surrounding manager Joe Schroeck.

"Pat Brennan was present at the October league meeting as the representative for the Hawks," according to an update on the Pendel Web site. "The league is looking forward to Glenside once again being in the fold in 2014."
