The Phillies have signed veteran catcher Wil Nieves to a one-year deal, according to several sources close to the organization.

The Phillies signed catcher Wil Nieves for the 2014 season.Details of the contract are unclear, but the value is expected to be near $850,000.

Nieves, 36, hit .297/.320/.369 in 206 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks last season. A 10 year veteran, he's a career .242 hitter. 

Nieves allowed 33 wild pitches last season in just over 380 defensive innings - the most surrendered by any pitcher with less than 500 innings behind the plate since 1995.
