PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies did not leave much room for suspense Saturday night.
Bryson Stott drove in five runs, Alec Bohm added four and Philadelphia turned two productive innings into an 11-4 victory over the Yankees before 42,799 at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies finished with 13 hits, went 6-for-15 with runners in scoring position and repeatedly produced with two outs. Stott and Bohm combined for eight two-out RBIs, supplying more than enough support for Cristopher Sánchez.
Sánchez allowed three runs on six hits over six innings, striking out six and walking three. The left-hander improved to 13-4 with a 2.73 ERA despite navigating a difficult fifth inning in which New York scored three times and briefly cut a six-run deficit in half.
By then, however, the Phillies had already established control.
Trea Turner opened the bottom of the first with a triple to center, and Kyle Schwarber brought him home with a sacrifice fly. Stott doubled the advantage one inning later when he drove a solo home run to right, his eighth of the season.
The game broke open in the third.
Schwarber drew a two-out walk, Bryce Harper doubled and the Yankees intentionally walked Brandon Marsh to load the bases. Bohm responded by lining a three-run double to center, pushing Philadelphia’s lead to 5-0. Stott followed with an RBI single to right, scoring Bohm and completing a four-run inning.
The Yankees mounted their only meaningful response in the fifth.
Ali Sánchez singled and Paul Goldschmidt walked before Cristopher Sánchez committed a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, allowing New York’s first run to score. Jasson Domínguez followed with an RBI groundout, and Anthony Volpe doubled home another run to trim the Phillies’ lead to 6-3.
Philadelphia answered immediately and decisively in the sixth.
Bryan De La Cruz, pinch-hitting for Gabriel Rincones Jr., reached on an infield single and advanced on Volpe’s throwing error. Justin Crawford followed with a bunt single before Turner delivered an RBI single to left.
After Schwarber singled to load the bases, Bohm was hit by a pitch to force in another run. Stott then ended any remaining doubt by clearing the bases with a double to right, extending the Phillies’ lead to 11-3.
Stott finished 3-for-4 with a home run, double and five RBIs. Bohm went 1-for-4, but his third-inning double and sixth-inning hit-by-pitch accounted for four runs. Turner had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run, while De La Cruz collected two hits after entering in the sixth.
Ben Rice homered off Tim Mayza in the seventh for New York’s final run.
Chase Shugart handled the final two innings and struck out five of the eight batters he faced, allowing only one hit and one walk. He ended the game by striking out Goldschmidt, Ryan McMahon and Domínguez around a Rice double.
For one night, there was no need to search for offense, no late-inning tension and no wasted pitching performance.
The Phillies supplied Sánchez with an early lead, answered when the Yankees threatened and finished the night with the kind of complete offensive showing that has too often escaped them.
