Philly Select Baseball - Philadelphia Baseball Review
The Fightin Quakers gave Austin Allen an early lead Wednesday, then kept adding to it.
Behind 11 hits, eight walks and a steady pitching effort from Allen and Pat Dougherty, the Quakers handled the Philly Mummers, 8-1, in Doylestown.

Braydon Janzer put the Quakers on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single. They added another run in the second when Dino Liberi grounded into a fielder’s choice, giving Allen a 2-0 lead before the Mummers had time to settle in.

Allen took it from there. The Quakers starter allowed four hits and one unearned run over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Patrick Dougherty followed with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, giving up one hit while striking out two and walking one.

Mason Keith started for the Mummers and kept them within reach early, allowing two runs on four hits over four innings. He struck out three and walked four.

But the Quakers’ lineup eventually wore down the Mummers with pressure throughout the order. Liberi, hitting out of the No. 9 spot, drove in three runs and finished 2-for-4. Tyler Tucker, Ben Seidler and Nate Gilson also had two hits apiece as the Quakers collected 11 hits as a team.

The Quakers also showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks. Nuge Willard and Tyler Agriss each walked twice.

Billy Zentmeyer and Jake Andrews led the Mummers with two hits apiece.

Next up, the Fightin Quakers face Total Skills Tropics 18O on Thursday. The Mummers return to action Thursday against Philly Bandits Black College.

Elsewhere, ASSA Futures Collegiate Team did not need a big offensive inning Wednesday. It needed only a few openings.

Total Skills Tropics 18O gave ASSA those chances early, and ASSA turned them into enough offense for a 4-1 win.

ASSA broke through in the top of the second inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues before Jacob Ruddell delivered the key swing of the game. An error brought home the first run, and Ruddell followed with a two-run single to give ASSA a 3-0 lead.

The Tropics cut into the deficit, but ASSA added another run in the third after another Tropics error, pushing the lead to 4-1.

Connor Hill handled the rest from there. The ASSA starter allowed one unearned run over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Patrick O’Neill followed with two scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit while striking out two and walking none.

Ethan Lesh started for the Tropics and allowed three unearned runs over two innings. He struck out three and walked four. Owen Dimmick gave the Tropics important length out of the bullpen, working 3 1/3 innings and striking out six. He allowed three hits and one run while walking four.

Ruddell finished 1-for-3 and drove in two runs for ASSA. Paul Daly led ASSA with two hits, while Cooper Nelson reached base repeatedly and drew three walks. ASSA showed patience throughout the lineup, drawing eight walks as a team.

ASSA Futures Collegiate Team will host Rake Baseball on Thursday. Total Skills Tropics 18O will travel to face the Fightin Quakers.
